The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has released its latest figures on the number of refugees coming to Europe in the first two months of this year.
According to the IOM, a total of 12,919 people arrived in Europe in January and February. 12,381 arrived by sea and 538 came into the continent by land. Two hundred and fifty eight migrants were reported to be either dead or missing.
Nearly 390,000 migrants reached Europe last year and over 5,000 either died or went missing on their way.
Italy topped the list for the countries where migrants arrived first. Most of the arrivals were from the Ivory Coast, Guinea, Nigeria, Senegal and Gambia. Most people arriving in Greece were from Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran and Kuwait.
Bulgarian arrivals included people fleeing from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Pakistan and Iraq.
