The EU has promised that it will step up its rate of returns for migrants and asylum seekers who are refused the right to stay in the bloc. On Wednesday, a plane carrying more than 60 Bangladeshi migrants landed in the capital Dhaka.
The Greek minister for migration and asylum, Notis Mitarachi, tells InfoMigrants that a scheme to offer seasonal worker visas to thousands of Bangladeshis will start this fall. Some migrants are critical of the plan, saying it offers no long-term security.
Many Bangladeshis in France have complained that since the start of the year their asylum applications have been dismissed by order without a hearing at the National Asylum Court (CNDA). Lawyers say these automatic rejections have become commonplace.
