Four people have reportedly tested positive for coronavirus in the Vial refugee camp on Chios, bringing the total number of infections to five. An earlier case was detected last week.
In recent days, five people have tested positive for coronavirus in the Chios camp. Four are asylum seekers and one is an employee of the European Asylum Support Office, the news agency ANA-MPA reported.
The first case of coronavirus in the camp on the island was reported on 14 August -- a man from Yemen had tested positive. Three migrants who lived together with the man were then found to be infected as well.
Vial camp, which accommodates around 3,000 people,
has been placed under quarantine, according to dpa. No one is allowed to leave and
only a handful of staff are permitted in and out.
Thorough health checks are reportedly being carried out. The camp’s residents are receiving deliveries of food and water from authorities, the health ministry said. With dpa
