The NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans has announced that it is almost ready to resume search-and-rescue operations. They also called on European governments to do more to rescue migrants in the Mediterranean.
The NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans said in a Twitter thread published on Friday that
it's important for them to resume sea rescue operations as soon as possible, and that they are "nearly ready to do so."
Mediterranea said that currently only one NGO ship -- Sea-Watch 4 -- is at sea.
"A single ship in a boundless sea and without other help," the NGO said.
The migrant rescue organization said that the recent days in the Central Mediterranean had been "tragic," given that several shipwrecks near Libya left dozens of migrants dead.Mediterranea also called on European governmens to do more to rescue migrants in distress in the Mediterranean. They said that ships funded by civil society "can only give partial aid in a large emergency situation."
