The associations Intersos and UNHCR on Tuesday launched a competition for PartecipAzione 2021, the fourth edition of an empowerment and capacity-building program for refugee associations in Italy.

Intersos and UNHCR on Tuesday launched a competition for PartecipAzione 2021, the fourth edition of an empowerment and capacity-building program for refugee associations in Italy.

The program is for refugee associations and local associations that, working alongside refugees, promote refugee rights, integration, and social cohesion with the host community.

Organizers say that over the past three years PartecipAzione has supported the development of a network boasting 33 associations in 11 regions, offering them training, collaboration with project implementation, and processes for consolidation, sustainability, and growth.

During this time, several associations in the network have been recognized as examples of leadership in refugee protection and integration in Italy and Europe.

Entry deadline March 14

In 2020 alone, two organizations received important EU recognition: UNIRE, the Italian National Union for Refugees and Exiles, became part of a group of experts in integration from the European Commission and Generazione Ponte received the Altiero Spinelli award from the European Commission.

Entries to take part in the 2021 edition can be submitted until March 14, the date by which all projects must be presented. The projects must focus on one of the following: protection of the rights of asylum seekers and refugees, promotion of activities that foster integration or promotion of social cohesion with host communities.

Training and support for refugee organizations

This year, up to eight associations will be able to benefit from a four-module training course from June to September 2021 on: project writing and management, fundraising, communications and public speaking, and refugee protection.

Up to eight micro-financing awards will be given of between €5,000 and 8,000 depending on the project proposal and the capacity of the association. The program also promotes networking opportunities to trade practices and stimulate collaborations with other associations that have taken part in the various editions of the program.

On February 26, an online presentation of the program and competition will be available on the Facebook page of Intersos and the official page.
