Hungarian law enforcement found 17 migrants, almost all from Egypt, in a truck on the country's southern border on Thursday.

Hungarian police discovered 17 migrants in an airless truck with Turkish license plates on the country's southern border on Thursday. The incident took place near the village of Kistelek, which is located near both the Serbian and Romanian border.

Aside from one migrant from Libya, all were from Egypt.

The passengers needed immediate health attention, news agency Reuters reported, adding that police said that a rescue facilitated any later could have been too late.

Police said they detained the suspected human smuggler and sent the migrants off in ambulances.

In February, 18 migrants were found dead in a truck near the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

Hungary has a large fence along its border to Serbia, an attempt by the government to curb irregular migration along the Balkan route. But the country still sees its fair share of migrants passing through.
